Your appointment

Appointments with the doctor will be for 10 minutes. If you need longer please ask when making the appointment. You need to make a separate appointment for each member of the family that wishes to see the doctor.

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

If you have booked a telephone call, please ensure you have your phone nearby on the day of your appointment.

The clinician may call at any time either in the morning or in the afternoon.

If you miss a call from the clinician, they will try one further time. If they are unable to contact you at that point, you will have to rebook your appointment.
Our practice is involved in medical training.

Our registrars are fully qualified doctors undergoing further training before becoming General Practitioners. When booking an appointment you may be asked if you would consult with one of our registrars.

From time to time, the doctors and registrar will need to videotape consultations but only with your permission before the consultation.

We are also involved in the teaching of medical students. The students that come to our practice are aware of the importance of patient confidentiality, however, if you do not wish to be seen with the student, this will not prejudice your care.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

Please make sure that you arrive on time for your appointment and if you are unable to make the appointment, please cancel it. If you do not attend for 2 routine appointments and do not contact the surgery, you will be sent a letter explaining that a further non-attendance will result in removal from the practice list.

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system – Patient Access
  • phone us on 01642 270033, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

Home visits

Requests for home visits should only be made if the patient is unfit to travel to the surgery. All requests for home visits should be made as soon as possible after the surgery opens at 8am and as far as possible before 10.30am. Only emergencies will be accepted after this time.

You may find that the receptionist asks you details about your condition to enable the doctor to assess your requirements more effectively. Likewise, the doctor may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, by sending a nurse or indeed arranging a hospital admission.

Home visits are very demanding in terms of the doctor’s time. Several patients can be seen in the surgery in the time taken to see 1 patient at home. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.
